FAQs:

Frequently Asked Questions about Translation in Charlotte, Raleigh, Columbia and Greenville.

  • What is the rate to translate a legal document for Mecklenburg county courts? The average rate to translate is around $0.14 to $0.18 per word; we try to stay at or less than $0.10 per word, unless formatting considerations of financial tables are present.
  • How much does it cost to translates a birth certificate translation for immigration, naturalization or citizenship, that is USCIS applications?  Birth certificate translations are always $49, except when your document needs to be notarized for a US Passport application. We have to mail notarized translations; typical delivery is two to three days in Columbia, Greenville, Charlotte and the Raleigh-Durham area.
  • Are notarized translations the same as certified translations? No; for a US Passport Application, your translation needs to be notarized. If it is for USCIS, it just needs to be certified, which we provide. Typically, it is $9 for the third party notary service.
  • Can you translate my driver’s license for the SC DMV or NC DOT, that is, the Department of Motor Vehicles? Yes, we translate for the SCDMV all the time and always include the required form: SC DMV.
  • Does a certification cost more? No; it’s free! We certify our translations for no cost when necessary.
  • Where can I get a certified translation near me? We have certified translators in Charlotte and we have a few interpreters and certified translators in Raleigh; however, they do not stay in the office most days. Call to get started. As for North Carolina, we have certified translators in Columbia, SC as well as our staff of certified translators in Greenvile, SC. Additionally, we can complete certified translations even if we are not near as we do not need the original document. If you are applying for citizenship, naturalization or another form of immigration, we can handle your request for translation.
  • Does Southeast Spanish provide official translation in Charlotte, that is, do you provide official, legal translations? Yes, our translations are considered to be official and certified, so they are valid for all courts, government agencies and many other requesting parties. We provide certified, professional translation services in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greenville and Colombia. We also offer official, notarized and certified translation services from Portuguese to English, French to English, and Italian to English. Most translations are completed in 24 hours or less.
  • Can you provide a notary stamp or a notarized translation from the state of North Carolina, what about South Carolina? In some cases, please call for details.
  • What is good price to translate a criminal or FBI background check, marriage certificate or birth certificate? Many translators will advertise $20 to $30 per page, but their definition of a page is limited to 200 words or less; therefore, the average birth certificate will cost $50 to $60 or more. If hard-copies are needed, the rate can increase. We always provide certified electronic copies and mail hard copies for $49. There is large translation service in Charlotte that charges over $100 for a birth certificate translation, although they advertise $25 per page. We always keep our translation prices, rates, fees and total costs available and updated on our website.
  • Can I drop off the document at your office. Yes and no. We don’t need the originals in order to complete a certified translation, and we are not in the office all day, so please call, and we can schedule an appointment. Everything can be handled electronically if submitting using for Citizenship and Naturalization.
  • How much does it cost to translate an employee handbook to Spanish? The national average for handbook or employee policy translation is around $0.15 per word, unless machine (computer generated) translation is used. We, on the other hand, translate using professional translators and keep the rate at or below $0.10 per word in most cases. We are the only translation service in North or South Carolina that specializes in Employee Handbook translations to Spanish.
  • How much is does computer aided translation cost? Very little if not free; however, this type of translation is not certified or very accurate. We do not use or endorse the use of translation software.
  • How much does it cost to translate my FBI Background Check for a Spanish Visa at the Consulate of Spain in Miami? It is $49 to translate the fingerprint submission and $20 to translate the apostille. Call or email with questions about apostilles.
  • How long does a certified translation take? We can speak for others, but we translate most documents in 24 hours or less, unless they are over ten to fifteen pages. We are the only translation service in Columbia and one of only two translation services in Greenville that provides 24 hour service.
  • Can I translate my own birth certificate for USCIS? In the past, yes, but the government now stipulates that the translation must be completed by a professional translator and provide a signed translator’s affidavit on company letterhead. Also, the translator cannot be related to the applicant, although it is not stipulated how closely the translator can or cannot be related to the person applying for citizenship or another form of permanent or temporary status.
  • Do you translate from French? Yes, we see birth certificates and marriage certificates all the time from Haiti, Ivory Coast, Togo, Morocco, Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, the Congo, Mauritania, Cameroon, Mali, France and Canada.
  • I have a bilingual birth certificate from Puerto Rico (or Montreal), does it need to be translated? You would think not, but it really depends on who is requesting it. Most of time, schools, colleges, and employers are okay with bilingual versions of vital records; however, DMV offices, government agencies and courts like to see the translated version.
  • What if I find an error, mistake or typo in my translation, can it be fixed? Of course — mistakes happen. We have a two-stage process to avoid issues, but we do see a lot of handwritten and typed documents with smudges that are difficult to read, so if we make a mistake or something is not correct in the completed translation, just let us know. We always stand behind our work and want to make sure your document is accurate. We try to complete most updates within an hour or less.

Great service, very helpful staff, super fast translation, and fantastic price! I needed to translate my driver license from Spain ASAP and I contacted with several translation agencies located in my area. All of them gave me a higher price than Southeast Spanish. In addition, they were slower with the translation. I contacted Southeast Spanish in a Sunday night and I received a response within an hour or so, which it was pretty impressive. Also, shipping was super fast, so I am really happy I chose Southeast Spanish and I'd recommend it to everybody.

About my experience with Southeast Spanish, Inc. i will have to say that at first i was a bit skeptical, (but they excelled at providing excellent services) for several reasons:1. They did not give me the option to come to their office and see their physical location. But, it turned out that they were going to ship the documents to me for free!plus, i did not have to use my gasoline or take time off work to come to their office! :)2. They did not required for me to send an Original of my document.Once again, they had their reasons, they Stamped and Certified the copy i sent them!in my opinion, very professional, because they could not Stamp my original document.3. They said they were going to translate and mail me the documents within two days.which left me thinking... "how or where will they ship my documents, if they have not even asked me for my mailing address?" :0Once again, maybe that was just me getting ahead of myself, i am sure they were going to ask me where i wanted my documents to be sent, after they were ready to be mailed, but i went ahead and provided them with the address where i wanted my documents to be sent to, before they asked for it.On a last note, all my skepticism was wiped out by the prompt and professional services i received from Southeast Spanish, inc.i most definitely recommend their services! 🙂
